Embracing the Both/And:

Reimagining White Accountability in Leadership & Social Change

What is ‘Reimagined White Accountability’?

Grounding

This work is deeply connected to our bodies. Bringing awareness to our physical responses, staying present through discomfort, and recognizing unconscious patterns creates space for healthier ways of responding—and greater confidence in our capacity to change.

Measured Pace

We encourage you to move through the modules at a consistent pace. A gap of one to two weeks between modules is recommended to allow time to process the material, notice what emerges, and apply your learning before moving forward.

Accountability

If you are participating in this series as an individual, we suggest spending 45 to 60 minutes to engage with each module.

If you are participating in this series with a partner or a group, we suggest spending 60 to 75 minutes to engage with each module.

New Frameworks

Each module introduces a new framework to support deeper self-awareness, expand your perspective, and strengthen your capacity to create a positive impact in your relationships.

What will I experience during each session?

Each module is designed to support you in exploring what it means to be White and engage in racial justice work.

You will begin with a brief grounding practice to help you arrive fully and attentively. From there, the module guides you through an essential question using short instructional content, reflective prompts, and selected quotes to deepen your thinking.

Throughout the video, you are invited to pause, reflect, and write or think through your responses. These moments of self-reflection are central to the learning process and are designed to help you connect the material to your own experiences, assumptions, and practice.

You are not expected to have the “right” answers. Instead, you are encouraged to slow down, stay curious, and honestly engage with the questions that arise as you consider what meaningful and effective racial justice practice may ask of you.

Meet Dr. Alicia Wargo

I am a social justice scholar, writer, facilitator, and leadership coach whose work explores the relational conditions necessary for transformative social change. My research focuses on the work that people racialized as White must do to cultivate the humility, accountability, and relational awareness required for authentic multiracial coalition building.

For more than twenty years, I have designed and facilitated learning experiences in educational and organizational settings. Across these spaces, I have been drawn to questions of identity, power, and human connection, creating opportunities for people to engage deeply with themselves and one another in ways that foster reflection, accountability, and growth.

I earned my Ph.D. in Leadership and Change from Antioch University and my dissertation was on the lived experiences of White facilitators of racial equity work. As a founding member of BothAnd Collective, I collaborate with educators, facilitators, activists, and artists committed to strengthening the relational capacities needed for meaningful social change. My writing and facilitation draw from Relational-Cultural Theory, critical race scholarship, and my own experience navigating the complexities of White identity in the pursuit of social justice. I explore how individuals and groups can move beyond a culture of disconnection toward relationships grounded in mutuality, accountability, and collective action.

I have been invited to speak and facilitating learning sessions at universities, conferences, and professional gatherings on topics including White accountability, racial justice, and leadership for social change. As both a scholar and facilitator, I seek to create spaces where people can deepen their understanding of themselves, strengthen their relationships with others, and imagine new possibilities for multiracial coalition building.
