Grace Hospice

IDI Learning Space

Welcome to our May Grace IDI space!

Each month we play around with IDI learning— noticing how our personal background + identities shape how we make sense of the world, while getting curious about how other people see the world from the background + identities they’re coming from. (It’s a both/and!)

Obsessed about Exclamation Points!!!!!

What’s your preference around punctuation??!! (Email vs. a text…)

How much do you express when you speak? Were you raised to be more reserved in sharing your emotions? Do you love to gush about what you’re feeling?

When you think of a friend or co-worker that drives you nuts with how they express themselves (might as well be honest!), what about their communication style bothers you most? Is it similar or different from how you express yourself?

Today’s IDI activity: notice a moment where you are expressing yourself (written communication, body language, or verbal)…how would you describe it to someone you don’t know yet? What do you love? Is there anything you’re curious about where it comes from?

May’s IDI® Virtual Learning Space

Anywhere we are part of a group — our family, a friend circle, neighbors, work peers, etc. — we usually have “a way.” The “Grace Way,” in its best moments, is used as a term of endearment. In the rough, stormy times, it can be used to describe the problem. Good news… this is normal! It’s a reality of being part of a community.

With BothAnd support, Grace is looking more closely at the “Grace Way”— by getting clear on what makes this place feel great, and what needs attention in order to grow healthier ways to work together. It ain’t easy work, but it builds the type of work culture that feels more aligned and enjoyable for all.

Join us next Thursday as we start looking at important “Grace Way” layers… starting with communication styles!

Interested in digging back into your IDI® learning? Haven’t looked at your IDI® plan since your debrief? This space is for you— come anytime it works!

Have you met…the ‘interrobang’?!

I can’t help myself!!! I love to express and feel obsessed about emotions!!! :P

When I ran into the history of the ‘interrobang’ recently, I couldn’t help but notice it is a ‘both/and’! Both ‘?’ And ‘!’.

Feel free to geek out with me with this video all about how it showed up in our written language…. Isn’t it impressive?!

It gets me thinking about how much of our communication is made up— by the cultures we were raised in, the interactions we’ve had along the way, and how the world keeps changing (from typewriters to smartphones!). This shows flexibility— and reminds me that more than one thing can be true, at the same time! How could the interrobang help us look at the ‘Grace Way’ as something that also evolves over time. Isn’t it a beautiful thing to imagine?!

High five to you Grace! —Jen
